A New Year Means New Nominations
As each new calendar year begins, the work of the Nominations Committee ramps up. The Nominations Committee collaborates with the lead pastor, the Cross Winds board, and the other committee chairs to identify open positions for the new program year that will begin in July. The Nomination members then work to identify and invite people to fill those positions, which usually require a three-year term. The responses are collected, compiled, and presented at a church conference in May for affirmation and approval.
As Romans 12:6 states, “We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us.” The committee’s goal is to match the gifts of those being nominated to the needs of the committees they will serve.
Have you considered serving as an elected leader in one of these committees: Cross Winds Board, Finance, Staff Parish Relations (SPRC), Trustees, Nominations, or Endowment? Or would you like to know more about them? Please contact Pastor Stina or Mary Muellenberg (Nominations Chair) to learn more. Nominate yourself or a friend through the nomination referral form available online or at the Welcome desk.
Introduction to Elected Leader Committees at Cross Winds
- Cross Winds Board - has responsibility for all church governance (both fiduciary and vision/mission alignment of all ministries) to enable Cross Winds and its members to live out our mission, vision, and values.
- Trustees - are Christian stewards of the property God has entrusted to the congregation. Effective Trustees supervise and maintain the property of the congregation to ensure disciple-making ministries of the congregation are effective, safe and in compliance with all legal requirements.
- Staff-Parish Relations Committee (SPRC) - works with the lead pastor to identify and clarify values for ministry of the congregation so that the staff can set priorities for leadership and service. The committee will follow local, state, and federal employment laws and regulations and the Book of Discipline guidelines.
- Finance- proposes a budget; then raises, manages, and distributes the financial resources of the congregation to support and strengthen the mission and ministry of the congregation.
- Nominations - works with the lead pastor, the Cross Winds board, and the various committee chairs to identify open committee and board positions for future years and to fill these open positions. The committee’s goal is to place the right person, in the right position, at the right time, for the right reason.
- Endowment – provides faithful management of the Cross Winds endowment fund.
- Connections - consists of program staff and lay volunteers partnering together to discern and prioritize ministry events and community partnerships that align with the values/mission of Cross Winds. This team will be a hub for ministry events, aware of activities across the church but not responsible for execution of all programs.
